Rhyme Time is a word-family game for early readers. A picture appears with its word underneath, minus the first letter: a cat above “_at”. Your child hears the word, types the letter it starts with, and the finished word climbs a rhyme ladder beside the rest of its family — cat, hat, bat and rat. There are six families to fill, every word is read aloud, and there is no timer and no way to lose.

How to play Rhyme Time
Look at the picture and listen to its word. Type the missing first letter on the keyboard or the on-screen keys, and the finished word is read aloud. Each word climbs the rhyme ladder, and when a family is complete the game cheers “They all rhyme!”, reads the whole family and moves on to the next one. Tap the picture to hear the word again. A wrong letter only wiggles the word while the voice says its first sound; the Hint button, or two letters that miss, shows the letter softly and which key to press.

Why it works at this age
Rhyming is how children first notice that words are built from sounds. Keeping the ending the same and changing only the first letter puts all the attention on the beginning sound — the first thing a new reader has to hear and match to a letter. The picture and the spoken word mean the child always knows the word, so the only puzzle is its first sound.
Tips for parents
- Say the word together and stretch its first sound — mmm-ap — before your child presses a key.
- When a family is finished, read the ladder aloud and ask for one more rhyme that is not on it.
- If your child types k for cat, praise the ear: the sound is right, and English spells it with a c here. The game says the same.
