What TotType is

A free keyboard playground and learning games for ages 1–12. The playground and the fourteen free learning games need no account.
The other learning games can be tried free: a 60-second demo, twice a day per game on the same device, which saves no score, points, badges or progress. To keep playing, they need a paid plan, apart from one free game of the week that anyone can play, and a class link from a teacher on the Classroom plan, which opens its game in full for the class.
A free 8+ arcade. Anyone can try any arcade game free with one demo run (until game over or 90 seconds), twice a day per game on the same device; a demo run saves no score. To keep playing and to save scores to the leaderboard, it needs a free account, created by a grown-up, with a verified email address (that’s how the leaderboard knows whose score is whose).
Optional paid subscriptions, billed through PayPal: Family at $4.99/month unlocks more learning games, and Family Plus at $9.99/month unlocks all of them.
For teachers, the Classroom plan, at $14.99/month or $99/year per teacher, includes everything in Family Plus and lets that teacher’s class links open any paid learning game; the children still need no accounts. Schools can instead ask for a quote and pay by invoice, and we then turn the plan on for each teacher’s account for the period paid for. Discount codes and the welcome offer don’t apply to it.
Fair use: a Classroom plan is for one teacher’s own classes. Its paid games open in full on up to 120 devices per class link and 300 across all of that teacher’s class links at a time; past that, children get the free demo.
Welcome offer: a new account’s first Family or Family Plus subscription, started within 14 days of creating the account, is 15% off every month for as long as that subscription continues. It is applied automatically at checkout, does not combine with discount codes, does not apply to the Classroom plan, and does not apply again after a subscription ends.

Accounts

Accounts are created by parents (or guardians and teachers), not by children.
Child profiles are nicknames only — no real names, no birth dates, no photos. See our privacy notes for the full picture.
A teacher who creates a class link in Live session or Saved roster mode keeps each child’s first name and results for that class, visible to anyone with the link. The teacher is responsible for sharing the link only with their class, asking for first names only, and making sure this fits their school’s rules. The details are in the privacy notes.
You’re responsible for your account and what happens under it, so keep your password to yourself.
We may close accounts that abuse the service or the leaderboards.

Subscriptions & billing

Paid plans are billed through PayPal: Family and Family Plus monthly, and the Classroom plan monthly or yearly, whichever you choose. Card details never touch our servers.
Cancel anytime from your parent dashboard. Your access runs to the end of the period you’ve already paid for, and you won’t be charged again.
You can switch between Family and Family Plus from the dashboard. To move up from Family or Family Plus to the Classroom plan, cancel your plan and then subscribe to Classroom: it starts that day, and the time left on your old plan isn’t refunded as part of the switch (the 30-day refund below still applies to any charge). To switch a Classroom plan between monthly and yearly billing, or to a family plan, cancel it: it runs until the end of the period you’ve paid for, and you can choose the new plan after that.
A Classroom plan bought on a school invoice runs for the period the invoice covers. It is not billed through PayPal and does not renew by itself.
Prices may change, but never silently — we’ll give you notice before any change affects what you pay.

Refunds

Not happy with a charge? We’ll refund it, no questions asked, within 30 days of the charge. Email [email protected] or just reply to the welcome email we sent when you subscribed.

Advertising

The free games are funded partly by advertising, served by Google AdSense on pages such as the game lists, guides and the blog. The pages where children play (the keyboard playground and every learning-game and arcade-game page) carry no ad units and request no ads. On the other pages Google’s Auto ads can also add units of its own, including a bar docked to the edge of the screen that can stay on screen when you move on into a game; if one ever covers a game, tell us and we’ll switch that format off. On every page a child can use, our ad requests ask for non-personalised ads and the units we place are tagged for child treatment, so ads are contextual only: not personalised, and not based on any profile of your child. A signed-in account on a paid plan (Family, Family Plus or Classroom) sees no ads anywhere on the site.

Ad content comes from Google and its advertisers, not from us. We don’t choose individual ads and can’t guarantee every one is perfect — if you ever see something inappropriate, tell us at [email protected] and we’ll block it. Using an ad blocker is fine; nothing on the site is gated behind viewing ads. See our privacy notes for the data details, and for how to opt out of personalised advertising.

Fair play

The leaderboards are for real kids playing real games. No cheating, no bots, no automation. We may remove scores that weren’t earned fairly, and repeat offenders can lose their account.

Content & ownership

The games, art and code on TotType are original work owned by Equal Technology Solutions LLC, apart from a few animal sound clips used under free licences (credits). You’re welcome to play everything for personal, non-commercial use — please don’t copy, resell, or rehost it.

Disclaimers

TotType is provided as-is. We aim for high availability and work hard to keep everything running smoothly, but we can’t guarantee the service will always be up or bug-free.

Liability

If something goes wrong, our total liability to you is limited to the amount you’ve paid us in the last 12 months. If you’re on the free tier, that’s zero — but we’ll still do our best to make things right.

Changes to these terms

If we change these terms, we’ll post the update on this page with a new “last updated” date at the top.
