Big Keys teaches the keys every typist needs besides the letters: the long space bar, Enter, Backspace and the four arrow keys. Hoppy the bunny asks for one key at a time, shows it as a huge, colorful key with its name on it, and says it out loud — “Press the space bar to jump!”. Press it and Hoppy acts out that key’s job, so every key means something before your child can read a word.

How to play Big Keys
Listen for the key Hoppy the bunny asks for, then find it on the keyboard and press it. Each key makes Hoppy do something: the space bar jumps, Enter opens a door, Backspace takes a step back, and the arrows hop left and right or look up at the sky and down at the grass. On a tablet or phone, tap the big key on the screen or the glowing key on the little key pad below it. A wrong key only gets a gentle reminder of which key to press, with no penalty and no timer, and every eighth key sets off fireworks.

Why it works at this age
At three to six, a key means something once it does something. Each big key gets one action a child can see and name: the space bar is the jump button, Enter is the door, Backspace takes back a step, and the arrows are for moving and looking. Those are the keys’ real jobs in miniature — Space makes a gap, Enter sends a line on its way, Backspace undoes, the arrows move the cursor — so the picture carries over when your child starts to type.
Tips for parents
- Point to the key on the real keyboard the first few times, then let your child find it; the glowing key on the screen shows where it sits.
- Say the direction out loud with every arrow press: left, right, up, down.
- On a tablet, start with the big key, then move to the little key pad, which is laid out like a real keyboard.

Which keys does Big Keys teach?
