Key Finder is a free keyboard game that teaches young children where the letters live. A big, friendly map of the keyboard fills the screen. One key glows, a ladybug perches on it, and the voice asks, “Find the letter E!” Your child hunts for that letter on the real keyboard and presses it — the ladybug spins with joy and flies off to the next key. It turns the jumble of a QWERTY keyboard into a picture a preschooler can read.

How to play Key Finder
Listen for the letter and look for the glowing key on the map. Press that letter on your real keyboard, or tap the glowing key on a tablet. A right key makes the critter spin and fly to a new key; a wrong key lights up softly in blue on the map, so your child can see where it lives, and the voice names it while the same key keeps glowing. The game starts with the five vowels, then works through the top row, the middle row and the bottom row, asking for every letter of the row once, before mixing in all 26 letters. Each row brings its own critter, and every eighth letter found sets off fireworks. There is no timer and no way to lose.

Why it works at this age
Children of three to six often know their letters before they can find them on a keyboard, because a keyboard is not in alphabetical order. Showing the whole map with one glowing key turns a hunt across 26 keys into matching two pictures, and taking the rows one at a time keeps each search small. The critter gives young eyes something to follow from key to key.
Tips for parents
- Put the keyboard right under the screen so the map and the real keys line up the same way.
- When a hunt runs long, point to the right row on the real keyboard, not the key.
- Say each letter together after it is found; the game names it too.
