8-Ball Pool
Drag back from the white cue ball and let go to shoot: the further you pull, the harder the shot, and the dotted line shows where the first ball will go. The first ball you pocket decides your group, solids or stripes; pocket all of yours, then the 8. Sinking the white or hitting the other group first is a foul, and the other player gets the ball in hand. Arrow keys aim and Space shoots, too.
8-Ball Pool — a free online arcade game on TotType
8-Ball Pool puts a full table on screen: fifteen balls racked in a triangle, six pockets and real ball physics. Drag back from the white cue ball and let go to shoot; the further you pull, the harder you hit, and a guide line shows where the white will meet the first ball and which way that ball will roll. The first ball you pocket decides your group, solids (1 to 7) or stripes (9 to 15); pocket all of yours and then the black 8 to win. Sinking the white, hitting nothing, or hitting the other group first is a foul that gives the other player the ball in hand, and the 8 sunk too early loses the game. Play the computer on easy, medium or hard, or a friend on the same screen. How to play 8-Ball Pool
Tips & tricks
- Line the guide up so the yellow line points into a pocket: that is the way the ball you hit will roll.
- Softer is often better: a gentle shot that drops the ball keeps the white near the middle for the next one.
- With no easy pot, roll the white gently up to one of your own balls instead, so the other player has nothing simple either.
Frequently asked questions
How do you play 8-Ball Pool?
Drag back from the white ball and let go to shoot (the arrow keys aim and Space shoots, too). Pocket a ball to claim solids or stripes, clear your group, then pocket the 8. You keep shooting as long as you pocket one of yours without a foul.
What counts as a foul?
Sinking the white ball, missing every ball, or hitting the other group's ball first (or the 8 before your group is cleared). After a foul the other player gets the ball in hand and can place the white anywhere on the table.
How is 8-Ball Pool scored?
Against the computer, each of your own balls you pocket scores 10 and a foul costs 10. Winning adds 150 on easy, 300 on medium or 450 on hard, plus a bonus for finishing in fewer shots.
Can I play 8-Ball Pool online with friends?
Yes. Open 8-Ball Pool and choose Play online to join everyone playing it right now: up to 4 players a round, all starting together, and the highest score wins. When nobody else is on, computer players marked as bots hold the empty seats, and a real player always takes a bot's place. To play only with friends, make a private room and share its 4-character code. Online play needs a free parent account with a verified email, and players see only each other's nicknames and scores: there is no chat.
