Mahjong
Tap two free tiles with the same picture to clear them. A tile is free when no tile lies on top of it and its left or right side is open; blocked tiles look darker. Clear the whole table to win. Hint shows a pair (5 points), Shuffle mixes the tiles (20 points), and if no pair is free the tiles shuffle themselves for free.
Mahjong — a free online arcade game on TotType
Mahjong is the tile-matching solitaire: tiles stacked in layers, and two free tiles with the same picture leave the table together. A tile is free when no tile lies on top of it and its left or right side is open; the tiles you can't take yet look darker, so the playable ones stand out. Choose a 48-tile pyramid, a 96-tile fortress or the classic 144-tile turtle. Every deal can be won, because it is built by taking pairs away, and when no pair is free the tiles shuffle themselves. The tiles show animals and fruit instead of characters, easy to tell apart. Pairs score points, quick pairs in a row score more, and clearing the table adds a bonus for time. It's free in any browser with no download — anyone can try a demo run with no account, and a free parent account with a verified email unlocks unlimited play.

How to play Mahjong
Tap two free tiles with the same picture to clear them. A tile is free when no tile lies on top of it and its left or right side is open; blocked tiles look darker. Clear the whole table to win. Hint shows a pair (5 points), Shuffle mixes the tiles (20 points), and if no pair is free the tiles shuffle themselves for free.
Tips & tricks
- Clear the tall stacks and the long rows first: tiles at the ends of short rows can usually wait.
- When three tiles of a picture are free, think before you match: take the pair that frees the most other tiles.
- Look for pairs before you tap: quick matches one after another build a streak bonus, and a hint resets it.
Frequently asked questions
How do you play Mahjong?
Tap a free tile, then a free tile with the same picture: both leave the table. A tile is free when nothing is on top of it and its left or right side is open. Clear every tile to win.
Can every game be won?
Yes. Every deal is built by taking away pairs of free tiles until the table is empty, so there is always a way through. If you take pairs in an order that leaves none free, the tiles shuffle themselves, and the shuffle is built the same way.
How is Mahjong scored?
Each pair scores 10, plus up to 10 more when pairs come quickly one after another. A hint costs 5 and a Shuffle you ask for costs 20. Clearing the table adds 100, 200 or 300 by layout, plus a point for every second under 4, 8 or 15 minutes.
Can I play Mahjong online with friends?
Yes. Open Mahjong and choose Play online to join everyone playing it right now: up to 4 players a round, all starting together, and the highest score wins. When nobody else is on, computer players marked as bots hold the empty seats, and a real player always takes a bot's place. To play only with friends, make a private room and share its 4-character code. Online play needs a free parent account with a verified email, and players see only each other's nicknames and scores: there is no chat.
